Mainers Charged with Fraud
A Cumberland County, Maine grand jury hands up indictments for three southern Maine men for crimes related to workers’ compensation fraud. One individual allegedly misrepresented his injury to medical providers; the other two allegedly worked for other employers while collecting benefits. KeepMECurrent.com

Witnesses: Workers’ Comp Rule a Mistake
At the end of a Oregon House Interim Committee on Business and Labor hearing on a July change to a workers’ comp rule, an injured worker tells the committee that while the state has been wrestling with how workers’ compensation doctors can be paid, he has been trying to find a doctor to treat his injury. Troubling Spike in Oil and Gas Worker Deaths
Deaths among workers in the U.S. oil and gas fields have risen at an alarming rate, according to the Associated Press. The fatality rate for oil and gas-field workers between 2002 and 2007 was more than 29 deaths per 100,000 workers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, seven times the average for all occupations.
